Semper Simon is a custom Direct to Garment Printing (DTG) and graphic design company operated by Billy Simon and his family in Richmond, KY.  Semper Simon was formed in October 2010 after Billy Simon decided to embark on a new business venture, not wanting to be dependent on an employer for his livelihood.  Simon was unsure of what type of business to pursue but knew that he had the drive and dedication to be successful.  Simon had drawn upon his inner resources through his service as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1999 to 2004 in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

After careful consideration, the Simon family decided that they would start a Direct to Garment Printing (DTG) and graphic design business, building upon repeat customers for growth.  Billy Simon began researching the web for the US Department of Veterans Affairs for Veteran Entrepreneurs and the U.S. Small Business Administration for veterans outreach centers.  Realizing the need for financing and a business plan, he sought the services of Michael Rodriguez at the Eastern Kentucky University Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Rodriguez assisted him in developing a business plan and financial projections.  The need for capital eventually became a reality.  The Simons had savings as a resource but the cost of the equipment was an issue.  To remedy this situation, they opted to lease thus allowing them to use their money for other operating costs.

The Simons wanted an eco-friendly product that reinforced their commitment to the environment and their community. The Direct to Garment Printing (DTG) produces images with amazing sharpness and brilliance that are highly colorfast and soft to the hand.  The water-based ink ingredients are non-toxic, lead free, do not contain any heavy metals, and are safe for children’s clothing.  The technology allows printing in full color, over 16 million colors to be exact.  Semper Simon can print to just about anything that is flat.  Their products range from t-shirts, mouse pads, tote bags, pillowcases, sports jerseys, socks and much more.  There is no minimum order required.  Graphic design services are offered to assist with individualized logos.  Once the design has been created, a copy is kept on file for future printing needs and the customer keeps the logo.

When asked would he recommend the EKU SBDC to other entrepreneurs, Simon said he would without a doubt.  “The Center offers such wealth of services and resources that I would not have ordinarily thought of,” stated Simon.  For more information about the Eastern Kentucky University Small Business Development Center, call the Richmond office at (859) 622-1354 or the Somerset office at (606) 678-3042 or visit us online at www.ekubiz.com.
